| MATH A REGENTS EXAM COMPONENT RETESTING Certain students who have failed the Math A Regents Exam can take a different test in May, and be designated as having received a passing grade on the Regents Exam. A junior or senior who has taken the Regents Exam at least twice and scored 48-64 on at least one of the two most recent Exams he took is eligible for this Component Retesting. There are four different retests, based upon four of the seven New York Mathematics Learning Standards or Components:
The omitted Standards are: 1. Mathematical Reasoning; 2. Number and Numeration; and 3. Operations. A student whose higher score in her last two Regents exams was 55-64 must take one Component Retest. If her higher score was 48-54, she must take two Component Retests. Each Component Retest has two modules administered on two successive days. Each Module has 6 multiple-choice questions worth 2 credits each, and 3 open-ended questions, worth 3 credits each. The student has 50 minutes to answer all 9 questions. Copies of prior Component Retests are not available. Each student's two most recent Regents exams must be analyzed to determine how he scored on the specific questions on the four Standards/Components listed above. Worksheets available below are used to compare that score with a given Criterion Score. The student would retest in those Component(s) where he scored less than the Criterion Score. If he scored less than the Criterion Score in multiple Components, the Worksheets provide guidance for determining which one or two Components to administer. Under certain circumstances, a teacher may decide to assign the Component in which the student has shown improvement, as demonstrated by classroom tests, etc. Please review the instructions and worksheets available below for guidance. 2008 Component Retesting Schedule Ordering and Storing Component Retesting Materials General Instructions on Component Retesting Worksheets for Determining Which Component Retests to Administer Because the Components are based upon the New York Mathematics Learning Standards, JMAP's Regents by Standard Book, sorting the Math A Regents Exam questions by Standard, is a useful resource for focusing a student's preparation on one or two Components.
